Intentions

Conscious Embodiment Trainings was founded in 2007 by Matthew Appleton and Jenni Meyer with the intention of creating safe and empathic spaces to explore ways of embodying our aliveness in more conscious ways.

Through tapping into our body awareness we can directly experience how our physical, emotional, psychological and spiritual selves interrelate.  Our quintessential being starts to reveal itself and gives a context as to how we are rooted in the natural world and how the natural world speaks to us from within.

One path by we can deepen into our true essence is to gain an understanding of the earliest experiences that shaped us prenatally, from preconception to post birth.  Learning what conditions we encountered as we developed and how we inevitably became less connected with where we came from can bring us closer to our interconnectedness with ourselves, others, the natural world and the sacred.

Another path is to encounter wildness directly in the natural environment and allow it to act as therapist, mentor or sage. Indigenous people have done this for millennia and the ‘archaic whisper’ of our own indigenous roots is still alive within us and our landscape. Where our inner world of image and sensation begins to connect with the outer world of the elements is where we rediscover ourselves as both ancient and continuously renewed.

“We are nature, long have we been absent, but now we return….”
Walt Whitman

These themes are interrelated and will inform all of the workshops and courses to some degree. They are more like currents in a river than separate streams. However the degree to which each of these currents is explicit or implicit will vary from workshop to workshop.

The fluid nature of the trainings may mean that not all three areas of interest are given equal attention at any one time. At the time of writing the pre and perinatal workshops dominate the list of courses we are offering. This will vary over time. Many circumstances contribute to shaping which courses we can offer in any given period. However the unity of vision that underlies the ebb and flow of the course material on offer remains a constant bedrock.

All are welcome to attend the courses and workshops. If there are criteria to specific courses and you are in any doubt, please do not hesitate to get in contact. “Ho! Mitakuye Oyasin” (Cherokee)… “We are all related.”

“Oh, what a catastrophe, what a maiming of love when it was made a personal, merely personal feeling, taken away from the rising and setting of the sun and cut off from the magic connection of the solstice and equinox! This is what is the matter with us, we are bleeding at the roots, because we are cut off from the earth and sun and stars, and love is a grinning mockery, because, poor blossom, we plucked it from its stem on the tree of life, and expected it to keep on blooming in our civilised vase on the table.”
D. H. Lawrence
